Weekend #1 - Day 2

3. Return to the Classroom: Process Footage

- Students will transfer the captured footage from their cameras to the editing workstations.

- Guidance on the proper downloading process and file management.

4. Footage Organization and Labeling:

- Instruction on effective labeling and organization techniques for easy access and retrieval.

- Importance of metadata, file naming conventions, and folder structures.

1. Technical Aspects of Editing:

2. Editing to Music:

3. Audio Functions and Enhancement:

- Instruction on exporting edited projects to formats suitable for the internet and broadcast.

- Overview of compression settings, resolution, aspect ratios, and file formats.

End of Day 2 Filmmaking Workshop

Weekend #2

In this captivating workshop, students will delve into the world of filmmaking, mastering the art of shooting and editing their own films. Following the first weekend course, a remarkable opportunity awaits. Frontline Film School directors will handpick a student group to embark on an extraordinary journey.

During the subsequent weekend, this chosen group will join forces with the Frontline Film School crew. Together, they will embark on the thrilling endeavor of producing a film directed by the students themselves. Guided and supported by the expertise of Frontline Film School teachers, the student group will breathe life into their cinematic vision.

Immersed in the creative process, the students will seize the reins of storytelling, meticulously planning every aspect of their film. From organizing their script to coordinating the intricacies of production, they will learn firsthand the artistry and technical skills required to bring their vision to life.

This workshop offers a transformative experience, where students will not only acquire practical skills but also unleash their creativity and gain invaluable guidance from industry professionals. Get ready to embark on a unique cinematic journey, where you'll be empowered to create your own film under the mentorship of Frontline Film School.

Filmmaking and The Art of Storytelling

Weekend #1 - Day 1

Who: Led by Jonathan Kloberdanz, Documentary Feature Filmmaker and Todd Muchow, Photographer/Producer

What:

 A workshop on filmmaking and the art of storytelling using smart phones and other low-cost camera and editing equipment.

Where: TBD

Why: Everybody has a voice and a story to tell. This is an opportunity for those who want to express themselves through filmmaking. Learn storytelling and technical skills to improve your messaging through social media or to produce your own documentary film. We will provide a workshop to educate attendees on the technical skills to make it happen and provide a space for shared dialogue around what makes a good story.

Workshop Itinerary:

9:30am: Workshop attendees introduce themselves and why they want to learn about the art of filmmaking

10:30am: Technical aspects of documentary filmmaking;

The Camera:

The best camera is the one in your hand. Jonathan talks about the tools of the trade and gives examples of different scenarios and explains how each one differs for your project.

Editing Equipment and software:

Everything from iPhone editing apps to full-scale film production tool are explained

Lighting:

3-point lighting for interviews

About the Course Director

About the Co-Director

Jonathan Kloberdanz has an innate love for storytelling through film with an emphasis on education and social impact.  Jonathan has contributed to hundreds of films over 20 years as a cameraman and editor.  The focus of his work revolves around the energy industry, climate change, humanitarianism and the arts.  Most recently, Jonathan was the Director of Photography and Co-Producer on a feature documentary film on the plight of the refugees from the war in Syria.

Todd Muchow is an accomplished filmmaker and teacher with over 15 years of experience. He has produced documentaries in Africa, Ukraine, and the United States, showcasing his unique perspective and talent for capturing meaningful moments. Todd's ability to connect with people and his expertise in weaving films together make him a remarkable producer. As a dedicated teacher, he inspires and nurtures aspiring filmmakers, sharing his knowledge and passion. Todd Muchow is a dynamic force in the world of filmmaking, leaving a lasting impact through his creative work and educational contributions.
